UConn's Department of Physiology & Neurobiology is pleased to invite applications for a Research Technician position to participate in the neuroscience research led by Dr. Natale Sciolino.
Her independent research programs focus on the neural circuit function and disease using the mouse model.
We seek a highly motivated, skilled, and dynamic individual who is enthusiastic about a career in science. This is a full-time position. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain additional research experience before attending graduate school. The start date for this position is in Spring or Summer of 2023 and will last for 6 months with the possibility to extend.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting in mouse colony management, genotyping (PCR), and transracial perfusions;
- Performing literature reviews and designing experiments;
- Performing and developing methodologies related to histology, stereotaxic surgery;
- Collecting and analyzing data, especially those related to behavioral experiments combined with optogenetic and chemogenetic strategies;
- Assisting in the preparation of publications and reports;
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and apparatus in good condition and good laboratory hygiene;
- Ordering materials and maintaining accurate and timely records in laboratory notebooks, databases, etc.
- Provide updates to PI regarding research progress;
- Provide guidance and training to other laboratory members and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or other related areas of science is required. A minimum of 6 months of experience in a research environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must show an ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. They must be flexible in nature and exhibit a willingness to learn new techniques and function in a fast-paced and changing work environment. They must possess strong organizational skills, keep excellent notes, show sound judgment, and have a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation as well as the ability to work independently within a diverse and dynamic team environment.
